Since 2015, September 1st, the World day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, has been proposed to all Christion Churches. The Holy Father wrote, “The annual World day of Prayer for the Care of Creation offers to believers and communities a precious opportunity to renew their personal commitment to their vocation as guardians of creation by giving thanks to God and asking for his help…and his mercy for sins committed against the world in which we live”. After his initial message with the Patriarch Bartholomew in 2015, in the dynamic of Laudato si’, he continues to give a personal message to everyone on September 1st for this world day of prayer.

Season of Creation
Creation has been given to us by God to build our “common home”. But humankind has appropriated it as its individual property, putting it in danger and attacking its very survival. To get us back on the road towards a “new earth”, which has been promised to us, we must find a sense of respect and sharing, and renew the Covenant.
The world day of prayer is prolonged by the Season of creation until October 4th, the feast of St. Francis.
For 2021, the theme is “A home for all? Renewing the Oikos of God”. The Greek word, Oikos, means home or household. The tent of Abraham, is the symbol for this year, which signifies our commitment to keep a place for those who share our common home, like Abraham did in the book of Genesis. It means that all Christian Churches can invite local communities to come and pray with and for vulnerable persons in their community and beyond. The Season of Creation is a time to live unity, praise and prayer, directed towards God’s work, with all Christian Churches. Many activities can be done alone, in community, in the parish, or in an association….
The tent can also be used in liturgies or events throughout the Season of Creation as a symbol of the community’s intention to create a home for all.
